Anna Fur Laxis Battles on like a Pro at the Friday Night Bush Hall Frolics…

Despite my burgeoning cold, I made the journey from Yorkshire to London and arrived at Bush Hall at 3pm. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and I was thrilled to be able to perform in such a lovely place. I met Chaz Royale, and was shown through to the backstage area, where I bagged a peach of a spot to pitch camp and unpack my costume. I was pleased to see Heather Sweet – a fellow northerner and good friend – was already there. More and more performers continued to arrive, and with around 30 performances during the evening, by the time everyone arrived every available inch of table and floor space was covered in costumes, feathers and glitter. CD’s were collected and everyone waited patiently for the running order to be announced.

List were pinned to the door and I found I was to be 3rd act in the 3rd set. I changed into my costume, covered myself with a gown and watched the first set. By the second set, my cold was really kicking in, so I holed up in the dressing room to rest. I was very excited to spot a kettle, and promised myself a post-performance Lemsip treat.

It was time for my act, so I blew my nose, took a sip of water and was on. The crowd were fantastic, making lots of noise! As I left the stage (conveniently fully dressed as my act was a reverse strip), in the style of a true Yorkshire lass, I headed straight for the kettle.

I changed back into my day clothes before my voice went completely, and I had to return to the B&B to rest. All in all it was a fabulous evening, and great to meet so many people in real life I’d previously spoken to online. Here’s to next year!
