Warren’s Story…
I perform male burlesque all over the UK and also often in Europe, but I was really looking forward to being part of the London Burlesque Festival. Myself and Dixie Licious were at the Clapham Or Bust show on Thursday 3 April and despite a few concerns over the layout of the venue, the show went awesomely well!
Backstage at burlesque shows is always a laugh, and as a bloke I cant think of anywhere better I’d want to be ! Heehee! It’s fun being a man in a vastly female dominated sphere of entertainment; not least because I dont have much competition!
I performed my burberry chav burlesque routine first and it seemed to go down really well with the audience, who I must admit were fantastic throughout the night.
In the second half of the show, because of the layout of the room, the decision was made to remove the curtains over the window to the beer garden behind, which meant we were basically performing burlesque in the round!
Myself and Dixie Licious performed our ‘Officer & A Gentleman’ double act in the second half and I got a really loud whoop when I walked on in my white Navy uniform - always a confidence booster. I enjoyed performing in the round too - taking great pleasure in sticking my bum tassles against the window to the delight of the audience behind it!
It was a great night and myself and Dixie had fun meeting new people.
Roll on 2009 when im sure the festival will be bigger still. Well done Chaz and team!
